Kadaksham movie review
In 'Kadaksham' Suresh Gopi plays Nathan, a painter who falls in love with his muse, Revathi (Shwetha Menon). They get married and soon have a daughter by the name of Malu.

Pretty soon, things go topsy turvy in the couple's lives and when it reaches an irretrievable point, Revathy leaves Nathan and her daughter and moves to Delhi.

Left alone, Nathan and Malu learn to deal with their changed lives, when the housemaid Janaki (Shwetha Vijay) comes to their rescue. Janaki almost becomes a mother to Malu, that even brings about huge changes in Nathan.

'Kadaksham' has been directed by Sasi Paravoor who had earlier directed 'Nottam' and 'Kaatu Vannu Vilichappol'.

The film had gathered much attention from the song 'Praananathan...' written by Irayimman Thampi, being remixed by music director M Jayachandran. The song has been sung by K S Chitra.

Siddiq, Jagathy, Vijayaraghavan, Sivaji Guruvayoor, Rekha, Indrans and Kottayam Nazeer form the supporting cast.

The film has been scripted by the director himself, while the dialogues have been penned by Murali Krishna.

Director Sasi Paravoor has won the year's best story award for his movie 'Kadaksham' (subtitled in the movie as 'tearful eyes’) that is in theaters now. When one gets into the cinema hall to view a movie which had the best story of the year, expectations were naturally quite high. But sadly, those were never met in the movie, which had a tad slow, conventional style of making and leisurely narratives.

More over, the movie fails to communicate what it originally intended to, giving an air of a half-baked attempt.

The movie's premise definitely had that potential to translate into something that could be called different. Shwetha Vijay (Femina Miss India Earth 2003) debuts playing the role of Janaki, a domestic worker in the house of painter Nathan (Suresh Gopi and Revathy (Shwetha Menon). Though the couple leads a troubled life in the bedroom, they behave as if everything is ok in front of others. Revathy who murmurs the name of her former lover in sleep, to start a big rift between her and Nathan, is pleadingly distancing herself from her husband, continuing with her research works in a distant city.

Meanwhile, Janaki too is a victim of a distasteful married life, as her husband, a drama actor is a drunkard, whose ill manners has forced Janaki to send her only daughter to Bangalore to take care of a kid there. She is always in the constant thought about the future of her daughter who is away in a big city. Nathan gradually starts showing an interest in Janaki which helps him to tide over his creative block. A big twist in the tale is on offer here, which is the high-point of the movie that can make you shockingly travel all the way back in realization of the actual.

The biggest problem with the movie is that the twist though a big relief from the regular proceedings, appears less convincing, as the foretold story finds it difficult to entertain such a big change of events. Moreover, convincing reasons are never laid out about the Nathan's change in attitude towards his wife. The real impact of child abuse on their parents and society's blind eyes towards problems arising from male gaze, gender inequality and child abuse are never addressed.

Suresh Gopi as Nathan tries hard to be with the character but appears jaded. The year's state award winner Shwetha Menon utilizes the best of the intense scenes of the movies, to prove her mettle once again and is charming in a complex roles of a mother struggling between her husband and daughter. Shwetha Vijay's role of Janaki is the most complex one which is indeed harsher for a debutante to play perfect. She delivers an above average performance though a few scenes appear overboard.

The struggle in glamorizing the star model, to suit the mannerisms of a domestic worker is also shows in some frames. But certainly this is promising debut of a star material to lookout in the near future. Jagathy Sreekumar, Vijayaraghavan and Indrans have some role to play in the proceedings.

The technical sides of the movie are good with some fine visuals from Ramachandra Babu. M Jayachandran's songs are fine but the techno remix' of ‘Praana Nathan' don't match the quality of his previous remakes in Sasi Paravoor movies. The song though choreographed well also appeared to be forced in the narratives.

All in all 'Kadaksham' attempts to take a different path exploring the issues around male gaze and feminine identity. But had the approach been a little more modern, with a more solid cinematic script-lines, the movie could have been better.

Produced under the banner of Priyanjali by the Dileep’s brother Anoop, the movie will feature Dileep and Innocent in their expected roles and images.

Meanwhile Dileep is continuing with his shoots for ‘Swantham Lekhakan’, which will present cinematographer P Sukumar as the director. The movie which will be the comeback movie of Gopika, will get complete by the third week of this month.

Pappy Appacha” the Malayalam film is all set to begin from December 6th. The lead actor of the film is Dileep. According to sources, the Vidyasagar the composer is already done with the recording of five songs for the movie. This film is supposed to be a comedy film and will be directed by debutant Mamas Chandran.

In Paappi Appacha, Innocent plays Mathai, while Dileep is his son Paappi. Hailing from Ithirikkandam, a small village somewhere in Kerala, the father-son duo believe that they are the rulers of the village. Sad for them, that there are not many others who think so.

Paappi meanwhile has his eyes and heart fixed on Annie (Kavya Madhavan) who is a school teacher. Annie on the other hand cant even stand the sight of the pompous father and son.

To set things worse, there is also Shashankan Muthalali (Ashokan) around, who is waiting for an opportunity to make life hell for Paappi and his Appachan. So, with the arrival of Maanikunju (Suresh krishna), another business man in the village, things turn tough for Mathai and Paapi.

Paappi Appacha has been directed by newcomer Mamas, who has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues of the film. The cinematography is by Sanjeev Shankar and editing by V T Sreejith.

Music of the film is by Vidyasagar, and the lyrics have been penned by the late Gireesh Puthencherry and Vayalar Sharathchandra Verma.

Releasing this Vishu, Paapi Appacha would be a laugh riot that would have the audience begging for more.

Pulliman movie review

Anil K Nair's 'Pulliman' is set in the scenic Perimannur village. Kunjunni (Kalabhavan Mani) is a youngster in the village who is loved by all.

Nobody knows how Kunjunni got his name. But what everyone knows indeed is that it's Kunjunni who puts the village to sleep every night. Kunjunni wakes up the village every morning as well.

If the villagers do not get to hear Kunjunni's voice for a day, an unusual silence prevails all over. One day, Kunjunni suddenly disappears from the village. The villagers launch a search for him, and finally reach the river side looking for him.

While Kalabhavan Mani plays a singer yet again after 'Vasanthiyum, Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum', Meera Nandan plays his heroine.

Biju menon, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Ravikumar, Jaffar, Mamukoya, Ponvarnnan, Prathap Pothen, Siddique, Suraj Venjaramooodu, Sharanya, shari, Bindu Panickar and K P A C Lalitha form the supporting cast.
