Ghajini movie review

Ghajini opens with Sunita, who is investigating case of Sanjay Singhania, who is a notable city businessman, reported to be suffering from amnesia in spite of being denied by her professor. Sanjay is introduced as he's murdering another man and takes the picture of the corpse. The amnesia he has wipes his memory out every 15 minutes. Sanjay uses a system of photographs, notes, and tattoos on his body to recover his memory after each cycle.

Every morning, Sanjay is reminded by a tattoo on his body that "Kalpana was killed", and it is revealed that Sanjay is ultimately out to avenge Kalpana, and that he is systematically killing the people who were responsible for Kalpana's death. His main target, evidenced by several notes and tattoos, is "Ghajini". It is eventually revealed that Ghajini is a notable social personality in the city. Mumbai Police Inpsector Fawaz is on the case of the serial murders. He tracks Sanjay down to his flat and attacks and disables him.

Through a 2005 diary found in the room, Fawaz learns Sanjay Singhania is the scion of a reputed business house that owns the Air Voice mobile telephone company. In the course of his business, Sanjay sends his men to meet Kalpana, a struggling actor/model, about putting up an Air Voice billboard above her apartment. The owner of Kalpana's modeling/advertising firm misinterprets this as a romantic advance, and encourages Kalpana to accept the advance.

Kalpana plays as Sanjay's girlfriend. He eventually meets Kalpana, but pretends to be Sachin, a simple fellow from a small town. Kalpana lands him some modeling gigs. They fall in love, and on the New Year's eve, Sanjay proposes. She requests some time to. Sanjay decides that if she accepts, he will tell her who he really is, but if she declines, he'll quietly back off with no harm done. He finally tracks down Ghajini to a college function where Ghajini is the guest of honor. Sanjay takes some pictures of Ghajini and decides to kill him.

Later that evening, Sanjay attacks and kills one of Ghajini's goons in the parking lot. The dying goon informs Ghajini that Sanjay is out to kill Ghajini. Ghajini is baffled about the identity of the person and decides to eliminate all his enemies. In the meantime, Sunita who he met at the party visits Sanjay's flat and finds detective Fawaz, beaten and bound. She also finds that Ghajini is Sanjay's target. Fawaz informs her that Sanjay is a known serial murderer. Sunita finds the two diaries and frees Fawaz. Sanjay arrives suddenly and in the ensuing chase, Fawaz is fatally hit by a bus, and Sunita barely escapes the crazed Sanjay.

Believing Ghajini is in danger, she informs him that it is Sanjay who is after him. With this named target, Ghajini arrives at Sanjay's flat and destroys all the photographs and notes, and tattooes over Sanjay's existing tattoos. Satisfied that he has neutralized Sanjay by wiping out any trace that connects back to him, Ghajini leaves.

Meanwhile, back in her dorm, Sunita reads the 2006 diary ,which revealed that Kalpana had accepted Sanjay's proposal and ends abruptly. Sunita investigates further, and discovers that at some point in 2006, Kalpana had rescued 25 girls from a prostitution racket. The girls named Ghajini as the ringleader of the racket. In retaliation, he murdered two of these girls, and went in search of Kalpana. Ghajini and his goons managed to break into Kalpana's apartment and waited for her return.

Coincidentally, Sanjay also arrived there to meet Kalpana. Her last word to him was "Ghajini." Ghajini kills Kalpana and hits Sanjay in the head leading to his memory loss. Sunita, now aware of the truth, finds Sanjay and tells him the truth. Arriving at Ghajini's lair in downtown Mumbai, Sanjay systematically and brutally kills all of Ghajini's henchmen and chases down Ghajini. He is about to kill Ghajini when his memory loss cycle kicks in. Ghajini takes this opportunity to stab Sanjay. He begins to taunt Sanjay with the grisly tale of how he murdered Kalpana. Sanjay, angered by this devastating memory takes out the sharp pole in his stomach and throws it at Ghajini, which knocks him to the floor. Sanjay overpowers Ghajini after a short fight and kills him in the same way Kalpana was killed. The film ends with Sanjay, still suffering from the amnesia, volunteering at an orphange. Sunita gives him a small gift, a memorabilia containing both of their footprints literally to remind him of his fond association with Kalpana

Slumdog Millionaire movie review

Overall "Slumdog Millionaire" works exceptionally well as a frenzied and largely heartless narrative of Mumbai's slum life if one disregards some contrivances.
Slumdog Millionaire starts off with a police inspector in Mumbai, India, interrogating Jamal Malik, a former slumdog street child from the slums of Dharavi. The scene reveals four ways in which he could have won 20 million rupees which the police don't believe he won fair, A) He cheated, B) He's lucky, C) He's a genius, D) It is written.
All the talk of 'poverty porn' and the obsession with garbage and faeces is frankly just that - crap. While not nearly a masterpiece, Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire dares to go into places we don't - yet it remains a film pulsating with life and hope.

Jamal competed on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire hosted by Prem Kumar. Jamal made it to the final question and the next day will be when he attempts to answer it and win all the money, but the police just don't buy that he has the knowledge to answer the prior questions. Jamal then explains to them, that the question about Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was easy, he knew the answers of most questions because of things that happened in his life. He flashes back documenting different times in his childhood. This includes scenes of him obtaining the autograph of Amitabh Bachchan; the death of his mother during Hindu-Muslim riots in the slums; and how he and his brother Salim befriended the orphan girl Latika.

Jamal's favorite book from school was The Three Musketeers, Salim and himself are Athos and Porthos, and Latika becomes the third Musketeer. The life these young two brothers is anything but happy. They end up being captured by someone who burns the eyes of children but Jamal and Salim escape. Latika doesn't. As time goes on they end up going through various trials throughout their youth and eventually find Latika. But Salim rescues her and takes her to a crime boss and they both abandon Jamal.

Years later, Jamal has a position as a "chai-wallah" (a boy or young man who serves tea) at a call centre. When he is asked to cover for a co-worker for a couple of minutes, he searches the database for Salim and Latika. He gets in touch with Salim, who has become a high-ranking lieutenant in Javed̢۪s organization and confronts a regretful Salim on tense terms. Salim invites Jamal to live with him and, after following Salim to Javed's the crime bosses house, he sees Latika living there. He pretends to be a new dishwasher and tries to convince Latika to leave. She is too scared to leave, but he promises to be at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station every day at 5 p.m. for her.

One day Latika decides to try to meet with him, but is recaptured by Salim and Javed's men. One of the men then slashes her cheek with a knife, scarring her as Salim drives off. Jamal again loses contact with Latika when Javed moves to another house. In another attempt to find Latika, Jamal ends up trying out for the game show to get Latika's attention. He makes it to the final question, despite the hostile attitude of the host who feeds Jamal an incorrect answer during a break.

At the end of the show, Jamal has one question left to win 20 million, or Rs. 2 crore and is taken into police custody, where he is tortured starts. After Jamal tells his whole story, explaining how his life experiences coincidentally enabled him to know the answer to each question; the police inspector calls his explanation "bizarrely plausible" and allows Jamal to return to the show for the final question.

At Javed's safe house, Latika watches the news coverage of Jamal's miraculous run on the show. Salim gives Latika the keys to his car and his phone and urges her to run away. When Jamal uses his Phone-A-Friend lifeline to call Salim, Latika answers his phone and they reconnect.

She does not know the answer to the final question either, but believing that "it is written", Jamal guesses the correct answer to the question of the one Musketeer whose name they never learned, and wins the grand prize. Simultaneously, Salim is discovered to have helped Latika escape and allows himself to be killed in a bathtub full of money after shooting and killing Javed. Salim's last words are "God is great". Later that night, Jamal and Latika meet at the railway station. It is then revealed that the correct answer to the opening question is: D) it is written.KK makes a remarkable voice make-over as he contorts to 'ghazal-gayaki' type of singing in a song that metaphor the nostalgia of everlasting love in 'Tu Mujhe Soch Kabhi'. Jalees Sherwani's wordings are congenially mesmerized with simplistically verses that make genteel chemistry with soothing arrangements. Shaan makes a delectable presence in the 'male' version while Sunidhi Chauhan's softening vocal textures makes mood tender in the 'female version'. Zindagi Tere Naam movie review

Good things sometimes come in small packages and ZINDAGI TERE NAAM is one such perceptible surprise in the segment of low budget entertainers. Recently Sajid-Wajid had a rollicking blast in PARTNER and the duo maintains their great form again with this low profile entertainer. In terms of contents, the album comes out with mixed bag of amusement with noticeable set of melodies, an energetic 'item song' and a contemporary 'qawalli' number. The major highlight of the film will be return of 70's successful pair Mithun Chakraborty and Ranjeeta in lead roles.

No 'Short Kut' to success for Amrita Rao

* Mumbai, July 7 (IANS) She has been hogging the limelight for her dare to bare act in "Short Kut: The Con Is On" that releases Friday. But Amrita Rao says she believes in hardwork and not taking shortcuts to achieve success in life.

"My entry in filmdom was not a freak accident, it was my participation in ad films that got me due recognition with famous directors and producers. I guess that's the only shortcut I have taken in my life and it paid off. Otherwise, I don't believe in shortcuts at all, I believe in the fact that slow and steady wins the race," she said.

"Short Kut-The Con Is On" is a comedy and it also stars Arshad Warsi and Akshaye Khanna. It has been produced by Anil Kapoor and directed by Neeraj Vora.

Why Simi Garewal's role was cut in 'Short Kut'?

* Mumbai, June 27 (IANS) Arshad Warsi was excited about his 'Rendezvous with Simi Garewal' in forthcoming film "Short Kut - The Con", but he was disappointed when the entire sequence was chopped off from the final cut.

"It
's unfortunate but we had to let go of the sequence. This was done to keep the film's length in check. We wanted the film to be as close to the two-hour running length as possible. The film is now two hours and seven minutes and we didn't want to exceed it any further," Anil Kapoor, the producer of "Short Kut", told IANS.

The comedy has been directed by Neeraj Vora and is set to release July 10.

If the scene would have been retained, Simi would have made a comeback on the big screen afte
r over two decades. She was last seen in her directorial debut "Rukhsat" (1988) where she had Mithun Chakraborty and Anuradha Patel for company.

"The scene had turned out quite well actually," said Arshad, who was expecting his 'rendezvous' with the graceful actress to be a hit among audiences.

"It was shot just like the way her shows are done with the white colour sets all intact. I had to act as this superstar actor Raju (the character which I play in the film) who gets this opportunity to make an appearance on her show.

"So t
here she is all sophisticated and elegant, while I behave as this cool star wearing those fancy, colourful and over the top clothes. The dialogues are really funny too as I start blabbering all that nonsense around how big

a fan I am of hers," added Arshad.

Couldn't the scene have been retained?

"Well, some things can't be helped," said Anil. "Sometimes to make things perfect, you have to sacrifice some good things as well. Unfortunately, the Simi sequence is one of those good things."

Jashnn movie review
On every street, in every home, somewhere in India, there is a 'nobody' who wants desperately to be a 'somebody'. Jashn is the story of one such nobody... Akash Verma, a twenty year old Indian lad, thirsts to become a singing icon that can blaze a trail for himself among the galaxy of existing stars. But though he has dreams in his heart, he has been unable to find that distinctive voice that he can call his own, that will propel him to the top. Only when he's shattered by life and unflinchingly looks at the sordid truth straight in the face - that he is freeloading off his elder sister Nisha, who, in order to offer him a decent life style, has become the mistress of a rich businessman, Aman Bajaj; is he is able to touch his inner core. Call it irony or a twist of fate, but the person who sees him through this dark night and mentors him when he's down and out is none other than the sister of the person who he hates most in the world... Aman Bajaj. It is Sara, Aman's sister, who makes him realize that he is an extremely talented man who is simply going through a bad phase and that the biggest crime a human being can commit, is to give up on himself. Spurred by life's bittersweet lessons, and Sara's genuine love and support, Akash, in the harshest winter of his life discovers an invincible summer within himself... thereby discovering his own voice. With this very special tune which has been soaked with the passion of his lived life, he not only touches his inexhaustible potential and becomes an overnight star but also brings dignity to his beleaguered sister, humbles his biggest detractor Aman Bajaj and in the process, lives up to the faith that Sara had in him all along.
.Music has always been the high point of films churned out by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt's Vishesh Films. "Jashnn" too has some nice renditions, which make the soundtrack something to look forward to.

Music composer duo Toshi-Sharib has created six originals and two remixes for the film.

"Aaya re", crooned by KK, starts off slowly but picks up pace and reaches its crescendo in no time. The composition has touches of rock and is a decent number. However, the lyrics could have been more appealing.

Next is "Aish Karle", which has the composers going behind the mike and starts with a few dialogues. Even though the lyrics are mediocre, the powerful music fills the gap.

"Dard-e-tanhai" is a soft rock number sung by Nouman Javaid. The song, which is slow-paced with the electric guitar in prominence, gives listeners a heard-before feeling. It also has a remixed version called the kilogram mix, which is nothing extraordinary.

"Main chala" can be described as the best song in the album. Beautifully sung by Nouman Javaid, the song is highly engaging and has acoustic guitar as the main musical instrument and it pulls at one's heart strings. The song is sure to appeal to music buffs, especially youngsters.

The song later arrives in a minute-long "unplugged version" and doesn't fail to make an impact.

Next comes "Nazrein karam". High on beats, the foot-tapping romantic number is sung by KK and Shreya Ghoshal. It is peppy but fails to impress.

This song too has a remixed version which has the potential to become a dance floor favourite.

Finally, there is "Tum Bin" with Shaan and Shreya. It is a soft, free-flowing romantic number and the singers make it hummable and easy on the ears.

On the whole, Toshi and Shabri have done a good job with the music and reinstated the fact that the Bhatts and quality music go hand-in-hand.
Out of the two big Hindi movies releasing this Friday July 17, 'Jashnn' stands on top because of its score in the fields of music and emotions. The director duo of Raksha Mistry and Hasnain Hyderabadwala succeeds to a great extent in synchronizing the different departments. The writer proves his worth by penning the dialogues and the cast by their excellent performances. The movie centers on Akash Verma played by Adhyayan Suman (son of actor Shekhar Suman). He dreams of becoming an icon from that of a small time club singer. However, he miserably fails and in the meantime decides to fall in love with a girl he just spotted at a coffee shop. He calls her khoobsoorat cheez (sweet stranger)!

The girl is rich yet likes Akash even though the latter is broke. She sells her jewelry for their livelihood. Akash struggles to hit his dream but in vain and quarrels with music companies. This is another matter that he is to blame for the sad story of his life; his relationship with his siblings is no good. But, isn't it a stark reality of life? This may look strange though that a small time singer dreams of becoming too big a singer some day. Isn't the movie following the Bhatts' style? So, the plot looks weak initially; how can a small club singer dream beyond what he is worth. But he proves it wrong later. Similarly, its comparison with Arjun Rampal starrer 'Rock On' because of both being musical we don't find it anywhere close to that inasmuch as Akash' band comprises three other artists but no good.

click for larger view
Meanwhile, Akash luckily or after realization of his limitations, falls for Sara played by charming Anjana Sukhani. She is sister of bhai Aman Bajaj played by Humayun Saeed (from Pakistan) who is the master of Akash' sister. Aman doesn't approve of Akash and Sara's relationship. So, there is hardly any romance in their life. Rather, Shahana Goswami playing Nisha as Aman's mistress, succeeds in enacting romantic scenes though very limited. The story provides no scope for her role. Incidentally, Nisha had become Aman's mistress in order to help her broke brother.

click for larger view
Sara, on the other hand, played by Anjana Sukhan is Aman's sister, who makes Akash realize that he is an extremely talented man and is simply going through a bad phase! In the climax, Akash becomes an overnight star, and lives up to the faith that his sister and Sara had in him all along. That's why in the end, Akash invites his sister on stage and makes her accept the award from none other than Aman Bajaj, who always hated Akash. A good example set by Akash! While analyzing the movie critically, we find that Shagufta Rafique scores in writing the screenplay as well as dialogues. As a result, certain scenes enacted especially during Akash apology to Aman and also his indulgence in looting money, are worth appreciation.

click for larger view
Acting-wise, the movie meets with great success. Though Adhyayan Suman's character is initially weak the actor has performed it very well. He can indeed bank on his bright future. Shahana Goswami looks natural even in her negative character of a mistress. Similarly, Humayun Saeed from Pakistan as Aman Bajaj can look forward to brighter prospects in view of his excellent performance even in a completely negative role. Anjana Sukhani is charming and proves that she shares chemistry with Akash. Camerawork is good too.

Keeping in view all the above factors, we find the movie worth watching.
